WHAT IS SHINRIN YOKU?
ShinrinYoku (Forest Bathing)
The Domaine de Boiscieux is located at an altitude of 1200 m, in the heart of the Parc des Préalpes des Monts d’Azur. Known for the quality of the air, the purity of the sky, the beauty of its wild landscapes, this territory offers peace and inner calm.
Shinrin yoku or sylvotherapy invites us to slow down, to pause. Dive into the tranquility of the forest, breathe in the pure air enriched by the scents of trees (birches, Scots pines, white firs, junipers, boxwoods, willows, etc.), moss, breathe deeply. You will feel a real state of well-being and regain your energy. Reconnect with nature. Discover the wonderful mountain landscapes, stimulate your senses by listening to the birds' songs, the sound of water to relax and unwind sustainably.
A bit of history:
In Japan (the country of origin of this practice), shinrin yoku, literally translated as "forest bathing," has become a true institution. Its benefits have been revealed by several scientists, the most famous being Professor Qing Li of the Nippon Medical School in Tokyo, who proved that slow and mindful walking in the forest significantly reduces:
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Anger
- Depression
- Reduces blood pressure
- Cortisol secretion (stress hormone)
- Significantly increases NK lymphocytes (famous white blood cells capable of killing cancer cells).
In 1982, Tomohide Akiyama, Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, coined the term shinrin yoku and declared that the Japanese people needed to regain well-being through nature. In parallel, this concept was part of a forest protection campaign. By encouraging people to go to the forest to take care of their health, they would be more inclined to better know the trees, take care of them, understand them, and protect them.
This has inspired many other countries: Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, where forest bathing is prescribed by the medical profession.
Even though forest bathing is always beneficial for health and presents no contraindications, it does not replace your ongoing medical treatments.
